To the Student Alaska Studies
Welcome to the Alaska Studies web site. This site is designed for anyone interested in learning about Alaska's history and cultures, but especially for:

  • Middle and high school classes with access to computers

  • Home school students and their parents

  • Teachers who would like to integrate the internet into their Alaska Studies classes

What you will find here:
This web site allows you to be the historian. Learn about history from the point of view of the people who lived it. Experience the past from the perspective of various cultures. Decide which parts of Alaska's heritage are important to you. In the process, you will answer the following questions:

  • How do we know what we know about Alaska's history?

  • What does Alaska's history look like from an Alaska Native perspective?

  • How does an Alaska Native perspective differ from other points of view?

  • How can we evaluate different sources about Alaska's history?

  • How can we use different perspectives to arrive at our own understanding of Alaska's history?

  • How do we, as contemporary Alaskans, fit into Alaska's history?

How to use this site:
If this web site is part of your school's curriculum, your teacher will instruct you on the lesson sequence and requirements. If you are a home school student, your parent or other mentor will help you design your Alaska Studies unit. If you are just here to browse, welcome! Pick a topic and follow your interests!
